Settled in 1716, Natchez is the oldest permanent settlement on the Mississippi River.  It is impossible to fully appreciate the history of the town without realizing the role the river played.  Nothing demonstrates that role like kicking back on the porch at Clifton House and watching the river traffic float on by.
